Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd Announce Ocean Network Options

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have unveiled plans for their Gemini Cooperation, a joint ocean freight network focused on East-West trades. The collaboration aims to deliver industry-leading schedule reliability of over 90 percent through a flexible and interconnected network.

Since announcing the partnership in January 2024, the companies have finalized the operational details of the Gemini Cooperation. They are now ready to present two alternative network options: a Trans-Suez Network and a Cape of Good Hope Network. The choice between these networks will be determined based on ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea.

Both networks prioritize reliability, connectivity, and sustainability. The Trans-Suez Network features approximately 300 vessels, a capacity of 3.4 million TEU, and 57 services. In contrast, the Cape of Good Hope Network offers a slightly larger capacity of 3.7 million TEU, 340 vessels, and 59 services.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd emphasize that their target schedule reliability remains unchanged regardless of the chosen network. They believe that the Gemini Cooperation will set a new standard for reliability in the industry, benefiting customers through improved service quality and efficiency.
