Lufthansa Cargo is bolstering its presence at Munich Airport (MUC) in southern Germany with the launch of dedicated freighter services. This marks a significant development for the carrier, as it signifies the first operation of freighter aircraft directly from the Munich hub, commencing on July 6, 2024.
The new service will utilize an A321 freighter aircraft, connecting Munich Airport with Istanbul Airport twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. Flight numbers for this route will be LH8350/LH8351 and LH8346/LH8347. This freighter service complements the existing belly network already established at Munich Airport, offering Lufthansa Cargo customers additional options for their air cargo shipments. Customers can begin booking their shipments on the new route immediately.
Lufthansa Cargo's Munich hub encompasses a total area of 38,000 square meters and boasts a state-of-the-art CEIV-certified Pharma Hub MUC. This specialized facility ensures optimal conditions for the storage and handling of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. With this comprehensive infrastructure, Lufthansa Cargo is positioned to handle a wide range of product categories and goods groups for transportation via Munich Airport.
Previously, cargo transportation from Munich primarily relied on belly capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and SunExpress. These passenger flights connect Munich to various destinations worldwide. Additionally, the Munich hub benefits from a well-developed RFS (Road Feeder Service) network, facilitating seamless onward transportation by road.
The expansion of freighter operations at Munich Airport strengthens Lufthansa Cargo's overall network and reinforces its ability to serve customers in the southern German region. This development offers greater flexibility and caters to the growing demand for air cargo services.
