Kuehne+Nagel, a leading logistics service provider, has opened a new, highly automated contract logistics center in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This facility, spanning approximately 55,000 square meters, will serve as the global hub for spare parts distribution for the Wacker Neuson Group, a manufacturer of light and compact equipment. The new center strengthens a longstanding partnership between the two companies, with Wacker Neuson having entrusted Kuehne+Nagel with their spare parts logistics for nine years.
The new distribution center represents a significant investment in automation technology. A fleet of over 30 robots will handle storage, retrieval, and transportation of parts within the facility. These "goods-to-person" assistants utilize a combination of sensors, cameras, and algorithms to navigate autonomously within the warehouse. This enables them to operate in three dimensions, identify and avoid obstacles, and dynamically adjust their routes for maximum efficiency.
The center boasts the capacity to stock and distribute over 100,000 different spare parts for Wacker Neuson's equipment. Furthermore, the design and processes implemented at the facility allow for future expansion. This scalability positions Kuehne+Nagel to accommodate potential growth in Wacker Neuson's spare parts distribution volume in the coming years.
The opening of this new facility signifies a commitment to both innovation and collaboration. By leveraging automation technology, Kuehne+Nagel enhances efficiency and accuracy within the warehouse. This, in turn, strengthens their partnership with Wacker Neuson by ensuring timely and reliable delivery of essential spare parts to customers worldwide.
