Maersk Breaks Ground on New Cold Store in Rotterdam

Maersk, a leading global container logistics company, has officially begun construction on a new cold store facility in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This specialized warehouse will be dedicated to storing temperature-sensitive and frozen products such as pharmaceuticals, fruits, meat, and fish. With an annual flow throughput capacity of over 43,000 FFE (40-foot equivalent units), the new facility is expected to significantly enhance Maersk's cold chain offering across North-West Europe.

The strategic location of the new cold store, situated adjacent to the APMT terminal in Rotterdam, offers several advantages. This proximity to the terminal will streamline logistics operations and facilitate efficient cargo handling. The facility's customs bonded status further simplifies the import and export processes for customers.

Maersk's commitment to sustainability is evident in the design of the new cold store. The facility will achieve BREEAM Excellent certification, demonstrating its adherence to high environmental standards. Additionally, the use of solar panels will contribute to the facility's energy efficiency and reliance on renewable energy sources.

To ensure the quality and safety of stored products, the new cold store will feature an in-house veterinary inspection point. This dedicated facility will provide comprehensive testing and monitoring to maintain the integrity of food and pharmaceutical products throughout their storage period.

The new cold store is expected to be operational in Q4 2024, bringing significant benefits to Maersk's customers. The facility's state-of-the-art storage solutions will extend the shelf life of perishable goods, while its strategic location and proximity to the APMT terminal will facilitate simplified and integrated supply chain solutions.

Michel Blonk, Regional Construction Project Manager for Europe, commented on the project, stating, "This new cold store represents a major investment in our cold chain offering, enabling us to effectively address the growing demand for temperature-controlled storage solutions. The facility's strategic location and proximity to our cross-dock facility will empower us to provide our customers with simpler and more integrated supply chain solutions."

With the construction of this new cold store facility, Maersk reaffirms its dedication to providing comprehensive and reliable cold chain solutions for its customers across North-West Europe. The facility's advanced technology, sustainable design, and strategic location will contribute to Maersk's position as a leading provider of temperature-controlled logistics services.
