Qatar Airways Embarks on Partnership with United for Wildlife to Combat Illegal Trade and Protect Endangered Species

In a significant step towards preserving biodiversity and safeguarding endangered species, Qatar Airways has forged a strategic partnership with United for Wildlife (UfW), an initiative founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales. As the Official Airline Partner, Qatar Airways will join forces with UfW to raise awareness about the devastating impact of illegal wildlife trade, develop innovative programs and initiatives, and support the crucial work of UfW Regional Chapters.

This collaboration aligns seamlessly with Qatar Airways' unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation. The airline's WeQare: Rewild the Planet initiative, launched in 2020, exemplifies this dedication by providing free transportation services to organizations dedicated to rewilding efforts. Qatar Airways also stands as the first airline to receive certification for adhering to the industry standard for preventing illegal wildlife trafficking in aviation.

Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, expressed his conviction in the partnership's potential to make a tangible difference: "The illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade poses a severe threat to our global biodiversity and jeopardizes the health and safety of vulnerable communities. We are determined to disrupt this illicit trade to conserve biodiversity and safeguard our delicate ecosystems. Our Official Airline Partnership with United for Wildlife is a testament to our commitment to the Buckingham Palace Declaration and marks another pivotal step in our wildlife protection endeavors. United for Wildlife has fostered a unique collaborative approach, uniting businesses that share a common mission. We remain steadfast in collaborating with our stakeholders to raise awareness about the repercussions of illegal wildlife trade and work tirelessly to deliver Qatar Airways Cargo – WeQare Rewild the Planet initiative to safeguard our planet's most precious species."

Amanda Berry OBE, CEO of The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, applauded Qatar Airways' enduring dedication to combating illegal wildlife trade: "Since joining our Transport Taskforce in 2016, Qatar Airways has consistently demonstrated a remarkable commitment to tackling the illegal wildlife trade on a global scale. They were the first airline to complete the IATA IEnvA IWT certification and have implemented a range of initiatives to prevent wildlife trafficking through their network."

"Qatar Airways' enhanced level of support as the Official Airline Partner further underscores their dedication to eradicating this harmful industry and preserving biodiversity for generations to come," Berry added.

Qatar Airways' participation in the United for Wildlife Global Summit in Singapore underscores its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The airline's involvement encourages other organizations and individuals to join in safeguarding the planet's precious biodiversity.
