CEVA Logistics, a world leader in third-party logistics, and Scuderia Ferrari, the Formula 1 racing team, have announced a new partnership to transport Ferrari's equipment by rail between three of the North American F1 grand prix races in 2023. This is the first time that Ferrari equipment has been transported by rail between Formula 1 races, and it represents a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to air or road transport.
The new rail transport solution will be used to transport Ferrari's equipment between the following races:
CEVA will pack Ferrari's race equipment in six 53-foot (16-meter) containers and transport them by train between the three cities. The company estimates that this solution will reduce carbon emissions by 90 percent compared to air transport and 32 percent compared to road transport.
The partnership between CEVA and Scuderia Ferrari is part of both companies' commitments to sustainability. CEVA is committed to reaching net zero by 2050, and Ferrari aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
"The partnership with Scuderia Ferrari underlines the trust that major brands place in us to provide leading solutions, and this trial demonstrates how sustainability improvements in logistics can significantly reduce carbon emissions for Formula 1 and beyond.
We're committed to engineering the best logistics solutions for Ferrari, and that includes finding better ways to transport their equipment and reduce the environmental impact. This initiative is in line with our long-term vision and demonstrates our commitment to working closely with our customers on more sustainable and efficient transport solutions."
Mathieu Friedberg, CEO of CEVA Logistics
"Slashing CO2 emissions in the logistical chain of motorsport, and beyond, presents many challenges. This pilot project with CEVA Logistics is very interesting in terms of transport decarbonisation, but we're not stopping here: we'll continue to research new sustainable solutions. To achieve climate targets, constant dialogue with partners and experimentation are more important than ever."
Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal and General Manager of Scuderia Ferrari
The partnership between CEVA Logistics and Scuderia Ferrari is a significant step forward in the development of more sustainable transportation solutions for Formula 1 and other industries. The new rail transport solution will reduce carbon emissions by up to 90 percent, and it demonstrates the commitment of both companies to sustainability.
