In a significant move that will reshape the global logistics landscape, DSV has announced its acquisition of Schenker from Deutsche Bahn. The transaction, valued at EUR 14.3 billion, marks DSV's largest acquisition to date and is expected to bolster its global network, expertise, and competitiveness.
The combined entity will create a logistics powerhouse with an estimated pro forma revenue of EUR 39.3 billion and a workforce of approximately 147,000 employees operating in over 90 countries. By merging their complementary strengths, DSV and Schenker aim to provide a wider range of services to customers across various industries and create exciting career opportunities for employees.
Germany will emerge as a key market for the combined company, with various central functions remaining in the country. DSV plans to invest EUR 1 billion in Germany over the next 3-5 years to drive growth, create jobs, and foster a modern and attractive work environment.
The integration process will be a collaborative effort between DSV and Schenker, with specific plans to be developed in the lead-up to the transaction's closing. To ensure a smooth transition, DSV has issued social undertakings for Schenker employees in Germany, safeguarding their employment conditions and collective agreements for a period of two years.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q2 2025. DSV plans to finance the transaction through a combination of equity and debt financing. Until then, DSV and Schenker will continue to operate as separate companies.
This landmark deal has the potential to redefine the global logistics industry, offering customers enhanced services and creating new opportunities for employees. The integration of DSV and Schenker marks a significant step towards a more competitive and sustainable future for the transport and logistics sector.
