Fashion Giant Inditex Partners with Shipping Leader Maersk to Reduce Maritime Emissions

Inditex, the parent company of popular fashion brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti, has partnered with Maersk, the world's largest shipping company, to reduce maritime emissions. This partnership is part of Inditex's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.

Through Maersk's ECO Delivery Ocean program, Inditex will switch to using green fuels for all of its inbound sea freight. Green fuels, such as green methanol and second-generation biodiesel, are produced from sustainable sources and have a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional fossil fuels.

This switch to green fuels is expected to deliver an estimated reduction of more than 80% in GHG emissions per liter compared to conventional sources. This is a significant reduction, given that maritime transport accounts for about 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The partnership between Inditex and Maersk is a positive step towards decarbonizing the maritime industry. It is also a signal to other businesses that it is possible to reduce emissions without sacrificing efficiency or profitability.
