Davies Turner strengthens freight links with South-Central Germany

Davies Turner is boosting UK importers’ and exporters’ links with Bavaria and central Europe, building on its new, twice-weekly trailer groupage service with the region.

The UK’s leading independent freight forwarder has signed a cooperation agreement with Bavarian freight forwarder, Deutsche Transport Company and now runs direct two-way services connecting its main hubs in the UK with the latter’s headquarters in Nuremberg.

Philip Stephenson, chairman of Davies Turner says: “This is a further useful expansion of Davies Turner’s European trailer services network. Germany continues to be one of our main trade lanes in Europe. Volumes have continued to grow, and these additional departures mark another step forward in our coverage of the country and of the continent. Our strategy remains to stay ahead of our competitors in this competitive market by enhancing our service levels, frequency and delivery times.

“This hub to hub trailer service follows the same pattern as we established last year with the development of daily services between the UK and near European countries such as France and Benelux as well as Germany, by connecting our five main UK depots in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Dartford to the main gateway cities in the countries concerned.

“Our new link builds on existing strengths and follows an established pattern. The 48-hour transit times compete directly with the Courier and Express networks but at more cost-effective rates.”

With branches throughout Britain and Ireland, Davies Turner is already one of the leading groupage and full load operators for Germany and Central Europe.

Deutsche Transport Company was formed in 1946, has over 250 staff and operates a network of logistics services across Europe.

Both companies share a common network of partners in Central and Eastern Europe, bringing added strength and stability to core services.

Adds Mr Stephenson: “Industry observers continue to point out the poor condition of the European roadfreight market after the widespread difficulties of 2009. However, both Davies Turner and Deutsche Transport Company are determined to use our continuing financial strength and development resources to improve our respective networks further.

“Each company benefits from being both multimodal and independently owned which enables us to plan long term as well as dealing with immediate competitive pressures. This brings its own benefits to our customers.”
