Former SAS boss returns to head SAS Cargo

Leif Rasmussen will return to the SAS Group as SAS Cargo’s new President and CEO, following the departure of Kenneth Marx. Leif has a long and strong background in the airline industry, including several leading positions within SAS. Leif takes on the new position August 17.

Kicking off his career as managing director of three SAS hotels in Copenhagen and Malmo in the early 1980s, Leif became Sales and Marketing Director for SAS in 1991. In 1994, he took on the role as Vice President of SAS Denmark. In 2000, Leif left SAS to become COO of Copenhagen Airports. Most recently he has held CEO positions at both Carlson Wagonlit Travel and LiverCyte Ltd..

“Leif’s strong background will be a suitable addition to SAS Cargo, and we are very pleased to welcome Leif back to SAS,” says Benny Zakrisson, chairman of the board in SAS Cargo Group A/S. “Leif joins us at a very tough time for the airline industry, but has a track record of challenging times within SAS, during which he delivered impressive results.”

It was announced in June that Kenneth Marx would leave SAS Cargo as the company will become a smaller and different operation to what Kenneth signed on to lead five years ago.
