FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) today begins the coordinated shipping effort for the new MONOPOLY: Here & Now edition to retailers across the country. FedEx will leverage its extensive FedEx Ground network to deliver 164,000 games to 7,200 retailers in the United States.
This past spring, hundreds of thousands of Americans voted to determine which landmarks from 22 great U.S. destination cities should be on the game board of the new MONOPOLY edition. The voting ended in May and game maker Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) has kept the results confidential throughout the summer. Hasbro worked with FedEx to employ a just-in-time delivery schedule to retailers to ensure the landmarks and their location on the board--including the identity of the new "Boardwalk" space--remain a secret up until the Sept. 14 on-sale date.
Starting today, FedEx Ground will position games throughout its network in preparation for the one-day delivery to retailers on Wednesday, Sept. 13, for consumer purchase on Thursday, Sept. 14. FedEx Ground transported the specially-packaged orders from the Hasbro facility in East Longmeadow, Mass., to a FedEx Ground facility in Willington, Conn., where they were sorted for distribution.

The transportation and delivery plans have been carefully orchestrated. The delivery will involve:
-- About 5,500 FedEx Ground employees and contractors
-- Approximately 5,000 regularly-scheduled FedEx Ground routes
-- Twenty FedEx Ground tractor-trailers will be used to deliver 164,000 games to retailers throughout the country
"This is the first time that the contents of a board game have been such a closely-guarded secret, and we needed a company we could trust to ensure the new games arrive to the stores on time and with the contents under wraps," said Mark Blecher, senior vice president of Marketing for Hasbro.
Beyond the new property landmarks, MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition has newly-appraised rents and property values, larger currency denominations and airports replacing the railroad spaces. The traditional flagship MONOPOLY game, which is based on streets in Atlantic City, N.J., will continue to be on sale alongside the new MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition.
This shipment is just one of many special deliveries FedEx companies make each and every day. In May 2006, FedEx Express returned 21 animals--including 19 penguins--home to the New Orleans Audubon Aquarium of the Americas following a nine-month evacuation due to Hurricane Katrina. In 2000 and 2003, FedEx Express and FedEx Ground collaborated with Amazon to deliver "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," directly to Amazon customers on the first day the books were made available to the public.
