NMI Approved ParcelScan

Scale Components announced today the launch of the National Measurement Institute (NMI) Approved ParcelScan in-line dimensioning system. NMI approval enables the ParcelScan system to be certified for legal trade measurement.

According to Ray Chappelow, Product Manager, Scale Components, the ParcelScan system is a versatile tool for in-line dimensioning and weighing in freight manifesting applications. ParcelScan is designed for use in distribution centres, warehouses, direct order fulfillment and logistics environments and combines the attributes of flexibility, accuracy and durability into one functional and automated solution.

“The ParcelScan system is designed for use in facility layout, pallet stacking and load optimisation and eliminates the need for manual data logging. It provides data for storage location selection, carton selection, shipment planning and interfaces directly to manifesting and warehouse management solutions. NMI approval and trade measurement certification of the ParcelScan system enables operators to use the measurements derived from the system to legally charge their customers.” Mr Chappelow said.

“The ParcelScan dimensions freight instantly and accurately without damaging the package or contents. It manifests freight correctly to avoid costly ‘charge back’ and facilitates load, weight and balance planning.”

The ParcelScan is ideally suited for the warehousing, freight and transport industries. Scale Components ParcelScan uses state of the art laser technology combined with optional weighing, barcode scanning, conveying and PC equipment to provide complete static or dynamic auto identification and measurement solutions. Application software provides database and interface functionality for freight manifesting and processing applications.

“The ParcelScan system can process multi-piece shipments - parcels of the same or random size, initiate parcel tracking tasks and transfer the collected dimensional and weight data directly to the customers host processing system. Appropriate dimension-based shipping charges can then be applied.” Mr Chappelow said.
