GEFCO opens a new Automotive centre near Casablanca

GEFCO is opening a new Automotive centre in Morocco. Located 15 kilometres north-east of Casablanca, this ten-hectare site stores and prepares new vehicles for the Moroccan market.

This dedicated Automotive centre was set up by GEFCO to house Peugeot and Citroën vehicles distributed by importer Sopriam, along with vehicles produced by Renault, Nissan and Honda. Through this centre, GEFCO provides a range of services encompassing the entire supply chain, from the factory gate through to customer delivery.

GEFCO services include vehicle shipment by sea to the Port of Casablanca (Casa Port), customs operations and transfer to the site. The new centre then stores the vehicles and undertakes a variety of pre-delivery technical and visual inspections before distributing some of these vehicles to Moroccan branches or dealerships.

The new site employs a workforce of 42. It is designed to house 4,500 vehicles in permanent storage and to prepare 30,000 new vehicles annually for all brands.

This site is also the first in Morocco to have MEAD (bonded warehouse) status. Customers of the GEFCO group thus have access to bonded storage facilities for their new vehicles and can complete customs clearance procedures when required, taking advantage of their MEAD status. This gives customers up to sixty days in which to pay duties and taxes.

Another key feature of the centre is an integrated flow management IT system that tracks each vehicle and lets users locate it in real time in the chain.

Founded in January 2001, the Moroccan subsidiary specialises in international transport for the Automotive sector and is successfully pursuing its development. This new centre reflects the strong expansion of GEFCO's activities in North-West Africa, and particularly Morocco.
