GAC Bahrain today (8 November) marked 50 years in the Kingdom of Bahrain with the inauguration of its new GAC Logistics Centre in Muharraq.
The ceremony was officiated by Dr Esam Fakhro, Group Chairman of Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons BSC(c) and Chairman of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry, with Mr Bjorn Engblom, the GAC Group's Executive Chairman.
The company was founded in 1957 by the late Ahmad and Abdulla Yousif Fakhro and the Swedish founder of the GAC Group, the late Bengt Lindwall. The Bahrain partnership was this year transferred to Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons BSC(c).
The facility is the first of its kind in Bahrain, with multi-modal services - road, sea and air services - all offered under one roof. Not only does the logistics centre offer dedicated customs on site 24/7 for prompt cargo clearance, it also provides bonded facilities for combined air / sea / road operation.
Strategically located near the airport, the facility also houses a state-of-the-art warehousing and distribution centre equipped with a laser controlled automatic sprinkler system and wall and roof insulation; a temperature-controlled area for sensitive cargo; a large handling area and office accommodation.
Setting new standards
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, GAC Bahrain's Company Chairman Mr Adel Fakhro said: "We are happy to mark our 50th Anniversary with this new milestone, which keeps GAC Bahrain at the forefront of industry developments in the Kingdom."
Describing the concept as "cargo made easy" for customers, Managing Director Captain Peter Gronberg explained that driving customers' value chain is the main objective behind the investment in the GAC Logistics Centre.
"Using a common consolidation centre with all transport modes under one roof enables us to offer customers tailor-made end-to-end supply chain solutions with the convenience of a single invoice. Customers benefit from significant improvements in time and cost efficiency from streamlined services and processes," he added.
To complement the services at the new GAC Logistics centre in Bahrain, plans are already in place to build additional facilities for local storage and distribution.
"Bahrain is continuing to gain prominence as a re-distribution hub backed by key infrastructure projects," said Capt Gronberg. "And we are confident that with infrastructure, systems and people in place, GAC is well-positioned to serve the present and future logistics needs of our customers."
The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished Directors of the company: Dr. Yousif Abdulla Fakhro, Mohammed Adel Fakhro, Lars Safverstrom, Bengt Ekstrand and GAC Bahrain Managers & staff.
