Leading European supply chain provider, Wincanton, has secured a 10 year contract to manage the warehousing and primary transportation for some of Carlsberg UK’s distributed range. The operation will offer the Danish brewery synergies with Wincanton’s expanding drinks business and reductions in their lead times by utilising a collaborative approach to its supply chain.
The contract will see Wincanton pick and check around 1 million cases of Carlsberg’s wines, spirits and third party beers at its shared user warehouse in Billingham, Teeside. Once checked, the product is dispatched on the same day to four of Carlsberg’s regional distribution centres. This initiative is part of a wider initiative by Carlsberg and the Billingham depot, and along with the Gravelly Park Depot, gives the ability to offer Carlsberg customers a ‘Next Day’ delivery service through its UK Nationwide secondary depot network.
Andrew Caswell, Customer Director, Carlsberg UK, said: “We were convinced that Wincanton’s collaborative solutions would be a natural fit and would best suit our warehousing and distributing needs. The fact that the new contract offers a significant service improvement and takes a day out of the supply chain, coupled with Wincanton’s demonstrable track record for operational excellence, made it a straightforward decision to progress our relationship.”
Steve Basnett, Business Unit Director, commented on the announcement: “The drinks market continues to offer opportunities for those that are willing to innovate. Adding another iconic name to our burgeoning portfolio of drinks clients demonstrates the flexibility of our offering and the synergies between our 3PL services. The value Wincanton can add to the supply chain is something we pride ourselves on, with more and more customers taking advantage of collaborative solutions.”
