MASkargo Undergoes Transition in Management

Shahari Sulaiman was named the new Managing Director of Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo), taking over from Dato' Ong Jyh Jong.

Shahari, an aerospace engineer by training, is currently the General Manager, Cargo Operations for MASkargo.

Shahari joined Malaysia Airlines in 1985, accumulating 15 years of experience in engineering capacities before joining the cargo subsidiary. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

Malaysia Airlines Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Idris Jala, said Ong will leave the company at the end of August 2007, to take up a senior position with another organisation.

He paid tribute to the leadership of Ong, and added that MASkargo underwent a tremendous transformation from a loss-making entity to the profitable unit it is now.

"Under the leadership of Ong, MASkargo achieved record profits last year, surpassing its target of RM150 million. On top of that, he has contributed immensely to building up the cargo business from the first day he took the helm.

"From the basic belly cargo business to the latest features like Priority Business Centre, Animal Hotel and i-Port, MASkargo has undergone its own transformation to where it is today," Jala added.

Ong rejoined Malaysia Airlines in January 2001 and under his leadership, freighter services were introduced. He was instrumental in building the MASkargo team to deliver world-class services to their customers. He has also led the development of joint ventures with other airlines to strengthen the position of MASkargo.

Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo), the air cargo division of Malaysia Airlines, operates four B747-200 and two B747-400 freighters covering the world's major cargo hubs. It also offers belly space capacity on Malaysia Airlines passenger fleet serving almost 100 destinations worldwide.

At KLIA, its home base is the Advanced Cargo Centre, a 108-acre complex designed specially for MASkargo's sophisticated state-of-the-art cargo handling facilities and recognized as major regional cargo hub.
