Last Saturday, in the presence of numerous customers and business partners Horst Grube, Mayor of the City of Bielefeld, and Klaus-Michael Kuehne, Executive Chairman of the Kuehne + Nagel International AG Board of Directors, officially opened the company’s new logistics centre. Kuehne + Nagel is consolidating its Bielefeld branch activities,previously located at two separate sites, at the new, large-scale facility, allowing for the realisation of synergies and service level enhancements.
The multi-functional facility, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, was built on a 75,000 sqm plot in only 8 months. It features 22,000 sqm of warehousing and handling space, prestigious office premises,and accommodates 450 staff. With regard to the increases in national and international cargo flows, the location is proving itself as an ideal logistics hub. By bundling activities under one roof and offering innovative warehousing and distribution services, efficiencies can be leveraged and complex supply chains optimised.
Kuehne + Nagel customers in Bielefeld are offered value-adding integrated logistics solutions; its sea- and airfreight services are complemented by warehousing and distribution solutions that meet the market’s high demand.Particularly national and pan-European overland traffic play an important role at the hub. This strategic business field has seen significant development since the 2005 acquisition and integration of the Bielefeld-based company Gebr. Mönkemöller GmbH & Co. KG. Currently, some 5,000 domestic and international shipments are handled in/out every working day. Featuring 116 loading bays, a spacious yard, and CCTV surveillance of the premises, the logistics centre is geared to ensuring fast and secure freight handling. “The commissioning of this state-of-the-art logistics facility underpins Kuehne + Nagel’s growth strategy in Bielefeld, a location that for many decades has played an important role in our activities in Germany,” said Klaus-Michael Kuehne, Executive Chairman of Kuehne + Nagel International
