Emblematic of the nation’s top professional drivers, UPS Freight’s Clarence S. Jenkins Jr. and Jose “Manny” Franco have been chosen to serve on the America’s Road Team of the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA).

Press Release

Jenkins, a road driver based with UPS Freight’s Charleston, W.Va., Service Center for more than 30 years, is a former National Truck Driving Champion who has garnered 10 first place finishes in state competition. He also is a five-time winner of the West Virginia Outstanding Driver Award and in 1988 was the recipient of the Distinguished West Virginia Award.

Franco, a local driver based in Phoenix, Ariz., whose driving record includes 15 years of accident-free service, is a current Arizona State Truck Driving Champion. He has won the state title twice in the past five years.

As members or Captains of the ATA Road Team, Jenkins and Franco will spend the next two years representing the trucking industry and promoting highway safety. They will work to educate the public, government agencies, other drivers, corporate safety officials and the media about the trucking industry and its commitment to safe highway driving.

Selected from the an original pool of more than 3,000 qualified drivers, 16 new Road Team Captains were named this week in Washington, D.C., by a panel of judges from the trucking industry and media. The competition among 35 finalists included a test on their knowledge of safety issues, communications skills and community service involvement. All are million-mile, accident-free drivers.

“Only the most honored and accomplished drivers are considered for a spot on America’s Road Team, the highest honor the industry can bestow on a professional truck driver,” noted UPS Freight President Gordon Mackenzie. “They are a credit to their profession and the industry and we are proud to have Clarence and Jose represent our company.”

UPS Freight, the palletized, heavy freight division of UPS, serves customers in the less-than-truckload and truckload segments with operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Guam.
