MPs and Peers will today attend a Reception at the House of Commons, hosted by Mike Clasper Chief Executive of BAA, Terry Morgan, Managing Director of Stansted Airport, and other senior directors.
Aviation Minister, Karen Buck MP will attend and speak.
On the agenda will be a briefing for Parliamentarians on progress with plans for a second runway at Stansted, and on other projects included in the Aviation White Paper. On display will be maps and information from the exhibition currently touring the local community as part of Stansted's consultation on the second runway development.
Terry Morgan said,
"This is a very important opportunity to brief MPs on our plans for a second runway at Stansted and to show them the detail of the proposals we launched locally in December.
"The message we are taking to the House of Commons is that our plans are firmly on track; that a second runway will be a major asset for UKplc and for businesses in London and the East of England; and that we are working hard to meet the demand of millions of leisure and business travellers who want to fly to an increasing number of European and international destinations.
"Important too, is our strong message about how we are working with the local community to help minimise the effects of growth and development around the airport, and that we are fully committed to the principles of sustainability, in line with the requirements set out in the White Paper."
