Transport industry professionals are being dared to test their mettle and perform challenging fundraising feats for Transaid Week to help break fundraising records.
The international development charity, which works to improve transport access across Africa, launches its 2011 awareness and fundraising week on July 4 with a daredevil theme and hopes teams from its corporate supporters will raise more than £15,000 over the next three months.
Suggested sponsored events include fire-walking on a bed of hot coals, or swinging from treetop high-wires at one of the Go Ape adventure parks, with Transaid fundraisers able to secure a discounted rate. Organisations already committed to support the campaign include Bandvulc, Key3Partners, National Express and Wincanton.
All funds raised will go towards Transaid’s Professional Driver Training Project in Africa which aims to reduce the high level of road deaths by providing quality training to bus and truck drivers.
Transaid Chief Executive Gary Forster says: “Our fundraisers always impress us with their loyalty and commitment, this time we are asking for a bit of bravery too!
“Fire-walking and Go Ape are both great challenges, fantastic for team-building and they’re character-building too. Once challengers get any nerves out of the way we are sure everyone will have a lot of fun.”
Also to coincide with Transaid Week the charity has taken advantage of Just Giving’s new text message donation service.
Supporters can text ‘TRAN77’ followed by an amount, for example ‘£5’ to 70070. Texts are free on all networks and the full amount is sent to the charity.
