Dubai, 29 May 2011: DHL Express, the world’s leading express company, has received recognition from H.H Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation, in honor of its contribution to improve transparency and transit times within the supply chain for the benefit of businesses in Dubai.
The Custom Reformation & Modernization Program (RMP) is currently being rolled out by Dubai Customs, in line with the revised Kyoto Agreement. As part of its commitment to the scheme, DHL Express UAE worked with Dubai Customs to develop a new and improved customs clearance program called Mirsal 2, which is aimed at modernizing customs procedures in Dubai and facilitating international trade.
Bachi Spiga, Head of Operations, DHL Express Middle East, North Africa and Turkey said: “We are proud to continue our long-standing support for Dubai Customs’ e-solutions approach to trade facilitation. DHL Express has a long tradition of innovation in the supply chain sector and is committed to helping facilitate trade and business in the UAE and wider Middle East region. The successful move to the new Mirsal 2 system, in partnership with Dubai Customs, is a prime example of government agencies and businesses working together to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for all.”
DHL was also the first express company to integrate a full Electronic Data Interface link, which allows clearance applications to be uploaded electronically, thereby enhancing government to business communication and speeding up the customs clearance process. The EDI link will allow the existing data in DHL’s Shipment Control Library to be transmitted to Customs, which avoids duplication of data entry and therefore speeds up the entire process.
Modeled on guidelines set out by the World Customs Organization, the new system employs the latest processing technologies, providing customers with a world class paperless customs system that is designed to involve freight handling businesses in customs regulation and to improve international trade.
Frank-Uwe Ungerer, Country Manager, DHL Express UAE, commented: “DHL is honored to have received this award, which recognizes the valuable contribution we have made in the successful introduction of RMP across Dubai. DHL Express is committed to helping facilitate trade and business in the UAE and wider Middle East region. DHL customers benefit from a faster, smoother and paperless transaction method which streamlines the supply chain process and underlines DHL’s status as a key partner for UAE businesses.”
The second phase of the Mirsal 2 deployment is currently being implemented and will focus on fully aligning the Dubai export processes and the international export guidelines designed to promote international trade, compliance and enhance supply chain security.
DHL has been a pioneer in the Middle East logistics industry over the last 30 years through its innovation, service excellence and commitment to providing customers with superior logistics solutions.
