To further professionalise its global ocean management, Damco, the logistics arm of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, appointed Diederick de Vroet as its Global Head of Ocean Freight.
A Dutch national with more than two decades of experience in sales, air, ocean and general management, Diederick will play a significant role in building the structure of Damco’s global carrier management team.
“We are very happy to have added Diederick to the team and we are looking forward to work with him on further improving the process, productivity and quality of Damco’s ocean related products, proving that Damco is committed to invest in its global ocean products and services,” says Damco’s Chief Operating Officer, Peter Kjaer Jensen.
His appointment was effective on October, 2010 and he is based in Copenhagen.
“Forwarding is not rocket science. With a pragmatic approach, logical thinking, focus on results, healthy interest in business development, good communication and a passion to improve, anything is possible,” says Diederick.
Before joining Damco, Diederick worked for more than 20 years with Kuehne+Nagel International where he was responsible for the ocean freight operations as well as sales and airfreight during different management positions throughout Europe and Asia.
After 10 years in Asia, Diederick moved back to the Netherlands to assume the role of regional ocean freight director for the Benelux in 2004. His last stop was in Uxbridge, United Kingdom where he was named Senior Vice President of Ocean Freight for Northwest Europe in April, 2009.
“I am very pleased to be part of Damco and look forward to working with the impressive team of industry professionals,” he says. “Damco has already proven its seriousness in delivering world-class services to its customers. The opportunity to contribute to the company’s commitment to become a leading global freight forwarding organisation is extremely exciting and motivating for me.”
