This is an ideal platform for Malaysian Photojournalists to showcase Malaysia to the world. I would like to thank TNT Malaysia and the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Malaysia for bringing this exhibition to Malaysia after so many years. I hope there will be more Malaysian participants in 2011.”
The exhibition is a showcase for creativity in photojournalism and a platform for developments in the profession, a part of World Press Photo's aim of encouraging and stimulating the work of press photographers around the world.
Talking about the importance of art and culture fostering ties between nations, H.E. Paul Bekkers, the Ambassador of The Kingdom of the Netherlands in Malaysia said, “There is a good reason for us to bring World Press Photo to Malaysia. WPPh is a wonderful expression of the art of photography. Arts and culture are important - and sometimes underappreciated - instruments to learn about each other. The Arts are a strong medium to enhance cultural ties between two countries, an intrinsic and important part of the friendship and good relations between Malaysia and The Netherlands.”
“The World Press Photo Foundation is more than a showcase of photojournalism; it is an archive of world history. The Foundation archives are a treasure, the pictures touch you visually and emotionally, they add perspective to news. The images draw you in, take you deeper and make you think- they are not just about showing what we already know, but something that asks more of us. TNT is proud to be associated with this exhibition which is an inspiration to photojournalists across the world.” says Mr. Gerry Power, Managing Director, TNT Malaysiaand Brunei.
