DHL and USAID partner to promote Jordan as an outsourcing hub

Singapore, 8 July 2010: Advancing its support to the outsourcing sector, USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) partnered with DHL Express Jordan to promote sector positioning regionally and globally. This partnership comes as part of the Program's outsourcing awareness campaign that aims to build a global platform for the exchange of services.

Sealing the partnership was concluded in a signing ceremony of a Letter of Agreement by DHL Express Jordan representative Mr Turgay Sarikaya, General Manager at DHL Jordan, and USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) Chief of Party, Mr Laith Al Qasem, and witnessed by USAID. The signing ceremony was also attended by partners representing the outsourcing sector.

DHL Express sponsorship of this activity highlights the partnership that supports the outsourcing activities and promotes the sector globally. Towards achieving this purpose, highly visible stickers on DHL export couriers that will be disseminating goods regionally and internationally will bear the "Turn to Jordan... Your Smart Shore Destination" brand which symbolizes the promises that Jordan as an outsourcing destination exemplifies, aspiring for it to become the country brand that will focus on knowledge base economy and significant sectors as well.

On this occasion Mr. Laith Al Qasem Chief of Party at USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) stated “Using the “Turn to Jordan” brand, provides a country and sector profile that promulgate Jordan’s value proposition in outsourcing/shared services. With the aid of national entities we will be able to attract the world's attention to what is on offer in Jordan. We would also like to thank DHL for their full support on this project.”

From his end Mr Turgay Sarikaya, General Manager at DHL Jordan said “DHL is proud to voice Jordan’s potentials to the world and Outsourcing is one due to the great capabilities that lies within it from its talented and educated human resources to its reliable and advanced infrastructure to name the least. This comes as part of DHL’s efforts to promote Jordan as a destination of choice economically and touristically”

DHL Express couriers will carry the "Turn to Jordan" brand to 220 countries, as it serves over 24000 customers during the coming year. USAID's support continues to cover all aspects of developing the outsourcing sector including workforce capacity building, development of business infrastructure, industry specialization, market access, and branding among others.

The outsourcing campaign that has been running for the past couple of years is defined as a true Public Private Partnership. Partners include the Development Zones Commission (DZC), King Hussein Bin Talal Development area, Jordan Investment Board (JIB), the Information Technology Association of Jordan (Int@j), and the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ),as well as a number of rising private sector outsourcing companies.

The USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) is a five year broad economic development initiative implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. The Program’s mission is to support sectors and activities in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah’s vision for a Knowledge-based Economy, by inserting Jordanian enterprises into global value chains, promoting investment, and improving the enabling environment to generate value added jobs, exports, foreign direct investment, and sector revenues as a powerful engine of economic growth.
