Industry recognizes DHL for its operational excellence

Demonstration of market leadership as DHL sweeps 5 prestigious industry awards

Singapore, 11 June 2010: DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, clinched five prestigious awards at the Annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) 2010 which took place last night in Shanghai, China.

DHL was named Best Express Operator, Best Logistics Service Provider – Airfreight, Best Logistics Service Provider – Ocean Freight, Best Logistics Service Provider – Project Cargo and Best 3PL.

The wins solidify DHL’s position as the top provider of integrated logistics through its long-established expertise in express, air and ocean freight forwarding, as well as contract logistics. Notably, DHL Express secured the Best Express Operator award for the 23rd time since the Asian Freight Industry Awards – predecessor of the AFSCA – started in 1987.

John Pearson, CEO, DHL Express, Asia Pacific and EEMEA, said, “It was a tough year for the industry as a whole and we’re honored to have emerged as the Best Express Operator. As we build on our achievements from last year, our focus will continue to be on the customer, particularly on simplifying the customer experience and developing our capabilities – especially in the intra-Asian network – to meet their growing business needs here.”

Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, North Asia Pacific, said, “As the global economy recovers steadily, companies are re-stocking their inventories, resulting in airfreight transactions already rising back to pre-crisis levels. The awards come as a timely boost to our confidence in our plans as we get ready to bolster our airfreight capacity, particularly in China, in anticipation of further growth.”

Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, South Asia Pacific, said: “These awards herald an exciting few months ahead for us as we continue to realize the growth potential of our LCL[1] (Less than Container Load) service that has seen great success so far. We are also dedicating substantial resources to develop our service infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region further, with India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Vietnam high on the priority list.”

Paul Graham, CEO, DHL Supply Chain, Asia Pacific, said, “Companies today expect their supply chain service providers to be a one-stop, end-to-end solution provider and that is exactly what DHL strives to be to our customers. Winning the Best 3PL award is an affirmation that as our customers’ first choice service provider, we are investing in the right areas to continually deliver operational excellence and innovation throughout their supply chains.”

The AFSCA awards are organized by Cargonews Asia to honor outstanding shippers, logistics providers and cargo transport companies. More than 12,000 Cargonews Asia readers were polled to select the best service providers in over 40 industry specific categories. AFSCA is considered to be one of the industry’s foremost accolades as it is the only Asian freight awards to rely solely on customer satisfaction to determine its winners.
