The industry's customers, retailers and merchants, will be the centre of attention at this year's UK Express Delivery Conference (UKEDC), to be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 3-4 July. The theme for the third annual event will be ''Growth through more effective delivery'', and free delegate places are on offer to volume users of B2C and B2B operators' services.
UKEDC offers the best chance of the year to meet colleagues in the industry, talk business with potential partners and customers, and discuss issues and developments with peers involved in the delivery sector. Once again, the conference will feature the biggest names in pallet, parcel and courier delivery, giving their views on the topical issues of the day. In the adjoining exhibition hall, the industry's leading suppliers will be displaying their services and networking with delegates.
The programme for the two-day event this year has a firm focus on those shippers and merchants who make extensive use of the various UK delivery companies. Their views of the industry, their service requirements and their concerns for the future will all be debated, as well as assessing whether and how the service providers will satisfy these demands.
A strong line-up of platform speakers from all sectors of the industry is on the agenda for delegates to listen to, question and debate. From the customer side, these include:
• Tim Curtis, Head of Mothercare Direct
• Gary Parker, Mail and Office Services Manager, BT Procurement and Supply Chain
• Peter J Smith, Joint Managing Director, Bike Tyrestore
• Tony Smith, Head of Operations, RS Components
• Jon Webb, Head of Operations and Logistics, Arcadia Group
Back by popular request, on the last afternoon there will be the always illuminating CEO Forum featuring the leaders of the major operators. In the spotlight for this entertaining and informative session, chaired by Chris Pearce-Ramwell of Screwfix Direct, will be:
• Andrew Bernard, Chief Executive, CitySprint
• Walter Blackwood, Managing Director, Home Delivery Network
• Guy Buswell, Chief Executive Officer, Business Post Group
• Vanessa Leeson, Managing Director, Parcelforce Worldwide
• Jonathan Smith, Managing Director, Amtrak
The conference's keynote sessions will debate UK carriers' responses to the requirements of their customers, the growing influence of B2C and the importance of effective delivery solutions. Retailers and carriers will discuss the importance of effective delivery in support of the significant rise in internet sales in the last few years. Also on the agenda are sessions on distribution agreements, sustainability, technology and blurring express / mail boundaries.
With a high-profile list of speakers and a programme packed with the most important discussion points of the moment (not to mention the Gala Dinner on the first evening), July's UKEDC is certainly an event not to be missed by any decision-maker in this industry. Network operators, suppliers and customers (including retailers, merchants, manufacturers and importers) will meet in one place for the only time this year, so it really is a must-attend event for anyone wishing to strengthen relationships on behalf of their business.
More details on UKEDC 2006, including the full programme and delegate registration form, are on the event website at www.triangle.eu.com/delivery. Delegate places are limited and booking early will save you money (the earlybird discount is available only until 5 May).
