Schmitz Cargobull (UK) Ltd. - Keeping the juice running

Long established Kent-based haulier Salvatori has taken delivery of eight new Schmitz Cargobull S.CS Freepost curtainsider trailers.

The new trailers bring Salvatori’s overall fleet size up to over 80 vehicles and will be employed on a contract delivering fresh fruit between growers and the factory where the fruit is turned into juice.

The flexibility that the design of the Schmitz Cargobull Freepost trailer offers was a major influence on Salvatori’s purchase decision, as the company’s workshop manager, Steve Webster, explains: “The trailers are often dropped off and left at farms where they are loaded without our driver being present. In the past the heavy wood or plastic storage bins that are used to transport the fruit have caused damage to the sideposts of our curtainsiders during the loading process at the farms.”

Because the new S.CS Freepost does not have any sideposts, the entire length of the trailer is unobstructed and can be used for loading and unloading - bringing huge advances in flexibility and efficiency. The absence of sideposts means that the S.CS Freepost is easy to approach and makes loading and unloading faster and safer and ensures that the kind of damage to the trailer that Salvatori had experienced before is eliminated.

Salvatori were also attracted by the fact that the Freepost trailers are constructed using Schmitz Cargobull’s bolted and galvanized production technique. Essentially, the bolted and galvanized system removes the need for any welding and, therefore, results in consistently high product quality. The galvanizing process – all parts of the chassis are galvanized before the build process takes place – ensures that there is no corrosion within the joint when two parts of the trailer are brought together. Schmitz Cargobull offers a 10 year anti-corrosion warranty on the Galvanized chassis as standard.

Because of its bolted construction method, the S.CS Freepost chassis is easily repaired if it becomes damaged. The damaged part is simply unbolted and removed and the replacement part added – no cutting or welding is required and specialist tools are not needed.

This is the first time Salvatori has bought new Schmitz Cargobull trailers, although the company has invested in used Schmitz Cargobull vehicles before. “We have been impressed by the build quality of the used Schmitz Cargobull trailers that we have on our fleet and, after visiting the company’s factory in County Durham for a demonstration, we were in no doubt that the Schmitz Cargobull Freepost trailer was the prefect product for us,” added Steve Webster.
