Women in Logistics UK (WIL UK), the organisation set up to promote women in the logistics sector and to enhance their networking and development opportunities, has announced Transaid as its chosen charity.
WIL UK has already shown its support through helping to promote Transaid activities such as Transaid Cycle Tanzania 2010 through its events and networks and are also planning to fundraise on Transaid's behalf during the coming year.
Clare Bottle, a founder member of WIL UK says: "Like Women in Logistics, Transaid is a vital organisation which punches well above its weight. We can all be proud of the UK logistics sector when we look at Transaid's track-record of getting UK experts to contribute to lasting transport solutions in Africa. Projects to help female market-traders in Ghana and Zambia particularly illustrate why Transaid is such a natural fit with Women in Logistics and we are delighted to offer our support to further Transaid's work."
Chris Saunders, CEO of Transaid comments: "Transaid is delighted to have support from the expanding WIL UK network to help generate much needed income and to raise our profile further within the industry. We are currently working in Northern Nigeria to improve access to healthcare and emergency transport for mothers and young children. One in every 13 women die in childbirth in sub-saharan Africa so it's fantastic to have the backing of an organisation like WIL UK behind us."
Women in Logistics UK was formed in September 2008 with the aim of helping increase the number of women in the sector. The group's objectives include offering support and encouragement to women in the industry; providing professional development and networking opportunities for all members, and to have fun. The group welcomes both men and women who want to work together to encourage more women to participate and progress within all areas of logistics. WIL UK is organised via the professional networking site Linkedin (see www.linkedin.com) and now has over 600 members. For further details visit www.womeninlogistics.org.uk
