Famous Pacific Shipping’s new oceanfreight consolidation service from Hong Kong opens new gateway for central and eastern Europe

Famous Pacific Shipping, the fast-expanding Asia-based NVOCC and freight services provider, now offers weekly oceanfreight consolidation services from Hong Kong to a key central European gateway.

The service, to Odessa in the Ukraine, allow shippers to save time and money as it prevents shipments from having to travel much further to gateway ports in northern Europe, such as Hamburg, Rotterdam or Gydnia, to reach key central and eastern European destinations.

Iskandar Zulkarnain, Chairman of the FPS Group’s Executive Committee, points out that the savings in time are not the only benefit from the new service.

Mr Zulkarnain says: “Many of the competing forwarders in Asia will serve central and eastern Europe through northern European gateways such as Hamburg and Rotterdam. This takes much longer, adding days to the transit time, and many of these companies also levy a high minimum charge per CBM to a shipment.

“Our new service is not only quicker but we have also decided to have a lower minimum charge through Odessa, saving money for the shipper who wants to take advantage of the groupage rate, but is only sending a small consignment. We are sure the market in Asia, and especially Hong Kong, will embrace our faster and cheaper groupage service to central Europe. We might not be the only forwarder offering ex-Hong Kong services through this gateway, but few will offer regular services through it.”

FPS Group members, FPS Hong Kong, and F.S. Mackenzie are working together to co-ordinate the new Black Sea services. FPS Hong Kong will also act as a hub to consolidate shipments from across SE Asia and will then despatch containerised consignments on a Thursday or Friday, as appropriate.

F.S. Mackenzie Ukraine, a subsidiary of F.S. Mackenzie in the United Kingdom, will forward consignments throughout the Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Mr Zulkarnain concludes: “This new service will bring together manufacturers in Asia with customers throughout the Black Sea and central Asian regions with a faster service ideal for clients who only wish to send a small consignment and not be penalised.”
