FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) today announced the launch of FedEx(R) Critical Inventory Logistics, a supply chain service that will enable customers to more efficiently manage high value and time critical inventory by utilizing the power and reach of the FedEx portfolio of companies.
The service will focus on customers in telecommunication, semiconductor, biomedical and other high technology industries.
"Customers are increasingly looking to FedEx for our expertise in managing just-in-time, critical inventories," said Tom Schmitt, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Global Supply Chain Services. "Our unique mix of networks allows FedEx to create customized solutions to address almost every supply chain need."
Schmitt added, "Customers realize that this service will significantly lower their costs by reducing inventory while providing more efficient network planning and the ability to choose shipping options based on timing and cost."
The FedEx networks will be utilized for this service, including:
-- FedEx Global Supply Chain Services for customer service, operational management centralized parts and device storage, distribution and replenishment;
-- FedEx Kinko's and FedEx Express locations for the forward deployment and distribution of parts or devices;
-- FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight for next day shipping or other delivery options; and
-- FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Express for urgent, same day service.
Leveraging the Power of the FedEx Portfolio of Companies
FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics will allow customers to deploy replacement parts at FedEx Kinko's centers throughout the United States, including several 24-hour locations. Many of these facilities are located near hospitals, business centers, and other strategic locations allowing customer representatives to pick up critical replacement parts on a moment's notice. The use of FedEx Kinko's for this service allows customers to keep supplies accessible for an increasingly mobile workforce. This service also will utilize the services of FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company; FedEx Ground which offers 100 percent coverage of every business addresses in the United States; FedEx Freight, the leading U.S. provider of next-day and second-day regional, less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services; FedEx Custom Critical which provides the fastest, door-to-door service available, with same-day delivery and next-day delivery of urgent freight, valuable items and hazardous goods, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and FedEx Global Supply Chain Services which offers a portfolio of services that helps turn supply chain management into a competitive strategy.
Just-in-Time Critical Inventory Management
FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics personnel work with customers to first determine how to best position their critical inventories throughout the FedEx network and develop plans to optimize their supply chains. Once the service is in place, orders are fulfilled by identifying the best sourcing locations and transportation option that meets the required delivery time or service level desired by the customer.

-- Full customer support and single point of contact 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the dedicated FedEx Critical Inventory Logistics customer center.
-- Same-day fulfillment and extended order times are provided and the network can be utilized to eliminate the need for regional warehouses.
-- Customers are given real-time, next flight out and courier visibility, event notification, monitoring, recovery and proof of delivery.
