India’s largest privately owned freight forwarding specialist is planning to grow its market share of the project cargo business in the United States.
Sahil Freight Express, a privately owned company, has delivered tailored logistics solutions for clients since 1986 and has over 150 employees in eight key locations in India.
Managing Director Suhail Shaikh, based in Mumbai, said the company aimed to tap into the growth in bilateral trade between India and the United States.
Mr Shaikh said Sahil Freight Express would have a booth at the Break Bulk Transportation Conference and Expo in New Orleans from October 14-16 to market its capabilities.
“Our objective is to aggressively promote our track record of success in implementing cost effective solutions from loading to discharge anywhere in the world,” Mr Shaikh said.
“There are more opportunities that need to be tapped and we have access to specialist equipment to transport heavy lift cargos along with extensive experience in air and sea chartering, customs clearance and warehousing.”
Mr Shaikh said the company’s capabilities had been demonstrated by the recent transportation of a number of breakbulk consignments that was part of 50,000 tons of construction equipment to a new steel plant in China. The project required transport from India to Shanghai and then onforwarding to the job site at Jiangyin.
Other recent major projects included the transportation of overdimensional plant and equipment for the petro chemical industry.
“We believe there is growing demand for 3PL services to and from India and we offer United States clients the benefit of being conversant with customs clearance and other business and tariff requirements and demand on port capacity in India,” Mr Shaikh said.
Market analysis forecasts that the logistics industry in India is likely to reach $125 billion by 2010 as the concept of end-to-end outsourcing becoming increasingly popular as companies realize its advantages in a rapidly growing economy.
Sahil Freight Express is a member of international freight forwarding networks Project Professionals Group, The Heavy Lift Group and World Wide Project Consortium.
