Maximus Air Cargo, the Abu-Dhabi headquartered specialist ‘heavy-lifter’ of the airfreight world, recorded an almost five-fold increase in aircraft hours sold during the first half of 2008 compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, ton kilometres flown grew 5.5 times, producing gross revenues 43 per cent ahead of target.
“We are now on track to reach our target of US$100 million in sales during 2008,” says Maximus president and chief executive Fathi Hilal Buhazza.
Flight hours for the period reached 3,685, up 487 per cent on the corresponding period, while ton kilometres rose 555 per cent to 154,700.
Gross sales totalled $45.5 million, compared to $47.4 million for all of 2007.
Highlights of the year to date include securing additional short and medium term contracts on both Airbus A300-600 aircraft – flying regular scheduled services on behalf of Etihad Airways, Air France and Sudan Airways – as well as concluding a formal cooperation agreement with the UAE Red Crescent Authority with Maximus appointed as exclusive partner for air relief support.
Maximus was also voted Air Cargo Operator of the Year, at the 2008 Middle East Supply Chain And Transport Awards (SCATA).
Maximus is the largest freighter-only air operator in the Middle East. With a staff of more than 130 aviation professionals, the company specialises in airlifting outsized cargo and wet leasing its own aircraft to other carriers.
The company runs a fleet of eight all-cargo Antonov An-124-100, Airbus A300-600RF, Ilyushin IL-76TD, and Lockheed Hercules L382G aircraft operating across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
As the exclusive air relief support partner for the UAE Red Crescent, it was one of the few international carriers able to bring supplies to cyclone-ravaged Burma, and also carried relief aid to China following the devastating earthquake there.
Its two Lockheed Hercules L382Gs have been specially-upgraded to carry all kinds of super-heavy cargo. It is the only aircraft that can transport oversized and heavy cargo, drop goods from the air, and land on airstrips/ground of any kind, giving Maximus the advantage of being able to deliver to any location on this planet.
