Ahlers starts building third warehouse in St Petersburg

Press Release

The new building will increase the warehousing capacity with 37,500 pallet places. The new class A warehouse will have a free height of 12 m and an extra levelled floor allowing small corridors leading to a higher return per square meter. Thanks to a 2,200 m² mezzanine value added logistic services can be offered. All operations are controlled by radio frequency and movements are followed through scanning. The in-house developed Ahlers Warehouse Management System allows us to be flexible and quickly respond to our clients’ changing needs. The warehouse should be delivered during the first quarter of 2009.

The announcement was made during the visit of a delegation of the Leningrad Oblast headed by vice-governors Alexander Kuznetsov and Nikolay Pasiada (in charge of transport and logistics) to Antwerp. The Province of Antwerp has a cooperation agreement with the region of St. Petersburg (‘Leningrad Oblast’) .

“The demand for new warehouses remains strong”, says Christian Leysen, Executive Chairman, “but the need for professional operators is still stronger”. “The fact that we have just celebrated the 15th anniversary of our presence in St. Petersburg puts Ahlers ahead of its competitors because we can rely on a professional and experienced team ... Many are attracted to the economic boom in Russia and turn to the large logistic parks that are being built and leased out in parts to different operators.”

”The investment in own warehouses confirms Ahlers’ firmly-rooted presence in the area and offers a global service package, including the railway connection”, continues Christian Leysen. Ahlers Logistic Center is strategically located near the recently delivered ring road accelerating the hinterland’s further opening up. These and other infrastructural works are needed in order to keep pace with the economic boom.
