Ahlers China, a joint venture between Ahlers (Antwerp) and the Chinese investment company SIPG (Shanghai International Port Group) has decided to further develop its network of offices towards the North of China with the opening during the second quarter 2007 of an own office in the ports of Tianjin and Qingdao.
Ahlers China is headquartered in Shanghai and already has offices in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Ningbo. It employs 60 staff but in the course of 2007, the work force is expected to grow until 100 employees in total. Ahlers China holds a class A license for forwarding activities, all offices have NVOCC licenses (non vessel operating common carrier) and private equity amounts to 1 million dollar.
Ahlers China is a logistic partner for local and international transport. Last August 2006, it was appointed dedicated agent for shipowner Nile Dutch who recently and successfully started a direct liner service between Asia and West-Africa. Fortnightly departures are scheduled from the ports of Xingang, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore to Durban (South Africa), Namibe, Luanda and Lobito (Angola) and Pointe Noire (Congo-Brazzaville) with transhipment to Libreville (Gabon), Matadi, Boma (Congo), Soyo and Cabinda (Angola). The service is operated by two modern 1700 TEU container vessels and two 20,000 DWT multipurpose vessels. The possibility of two more vessels joining the service is considered. The new line is a perfect match to the growing commercial interests between China and Africa.
“Ahlers is renowned for its competence in proposing logistic solutions for the entire transport chain, for clients active in the trade from and to the CIS and Europe”, says Luc Maton, responsible for Asia and Ahlers’ international forwarding operations. “Joint ventures in China call upon us for their warehousing and distribution activities. In the meanwhile, we have also been entrusted by certain Chinese multinationals with their European distribution from our warehouses in Ghent (pharma) and St. Petersburg (cars). We expect our turnover in China to grow with 120% next year.”
