Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced the successful implementation of a new phase of its Vehicle Information System by providing added functions to the existing system that will enhance in-terminal handling efficiency, heighten terminal security, and at the same time add convenience to cargo agents and trucking companies.
The Vehicle Information System is an on-line, instant electronic platform that monitors the in-terminal activities of trucks on a daily basis. This phase two implementation offers added convenience to terminal users such as agents and truckers by providing a new function that enables better correlation of the assignment of truck docks with the zone in which truckers and agents tender their cargo in Hactlís SuperTerminal 1. This new initiative facilitates a more efficient and appropriate truck dock assignment for truckers and agents, thereby shortening their in-terminal dwell time.
The new system also helps strengthen terminal security by displaying the total number of customs-constrained shipments as against the total number of shipments the truck has collected, upon scanning of the Truck Admission Card at the terminal exit. This feature enables terminal security personnel to physically check the number of customs-cleared shipments before the truck departs, thereby reinforcing customs and security integrity.
In addition, the enhanced system provides convenience to truckers delivering On Board Courier (OBC) shipments to SuperTerminal 1. Under the enhanced system, Multi Access Cards are issued to OBC truckers upon registration with Hactl, rendering it unnecessary for them to collect manual truck dock ticket at every single entry into the terminal. This new initiative significantly saves the waiting time of truckers, meeting their needs for fast delivery of time-definite shipments. Service providers of OBC shipments can also trace historical and real-time activities of trucks through Hactlís website, providing added transparency of information throughout the supply chain handled by Hactl.
Mr. Kenneth Bell, Hactl's Director, Service Delivery said, ďAs a world-class air cargo terminal that provides service to the entire logistics industry, it is important that we continuously improve our performance by introducing new initiatives in order to meet the needs of our industry partners. The enhancement of the Vehicle Information System further reinforces truck traffic monitoring, truck dock assignment and security control in our terminal. As the industry pioneer, Hactl is always committed to improving our operational efficiency and providing added values to our customers.Ē
