GEFCO UK, one of Europe’s leading transport and logistics groups, will set new capacity records this Christmas at its 215K sq ft Coventry Logistic Solution warehouse. In addition to the extensive core client base GEFCO have secured additional seasonal storage arrangements for new customers Halfords and Sue Ryder Care.
Eighteen months after the facility was launched, GEFCO UK is already seeing signs of strong 2008 demand at its flagship UK logistics facility. The warehouse has attracted a steady stream of UK and international business since launching a series of innovative storage and transportation solutions.
Andy Hill, GEFCO UK Logistics Manager at GEFCO, commented: "Securing major names like Halfords and Sue Ryder Care for such complex supply chain support is testament to our understanding of the storage and distribution process in the retail sector. During the period of heaviest use in the run up to Christmas, our facility will approach capacity, which is inline with our development programme. We expect to see capacity fully utilised over the course of 2008-09."
Halfords will deliver bicycles and other products from China and the Far East, as well as from Halfords’ own distribution centres in Oxfordshire and the Midlands. There is planned requirement for pallets of mixed goods and cycles, with the storage required for up to six months, though this may vary depending on a number of factors, including Halfords’ sales over the Christmas period.
GEFCO are also currently working with Halfords in the Czech Republic, to support the launch of their first store there. GEFCO stores goods at the logistics centre as well as at other facilities in the region, and goods are transported between the two on a weekly basis.
Sue Ryder Care, the leading charity healthcare provider will store stock donated by one of the UK's leading furniture companies to sell in their furniture outlets. Planned requirement is for 1200 pallets of mixed stock, on which GEFCO will be delivering to the Sue Ryder Care stores in assembled pallets and kit form. Sue Ryder Care will use the facility for at least six months.
