Maersk Boosts Tunisian Trade with New Weekly RORO Service

Shipping giant Maersk has launched a new weekly service to the Port of Tunis Rades, aiming to streamline trade in the growing Tunisian market and strengthen connections across the Mediterranean. This dedicated RORO (roll-on/roll-off) vessel promises faster transit times, increased reliability, and convenient links to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

"We're excited to offer this innovative solution that connects the thriving Tunisian market to our mainliner services," says Ruben Moratinos, Maghreb Head of Sales at Maersk. "This weekly service significantly reduces transit times, boosting efficiency and reliability for our customers."

The RORO vessel departs Tunis Rades every Friday evening, making a pitstop in Cagliari, Italy, on Saturday before connecting with Maersk's hub port in Tangier, Morocco, on Thursday. This strategic route provides seamless cargo movement between Tunisia and both Morocco and Europe.

But the benefits extend beyond speed and convenience. The new service paves the way for enhanced intra-Mediterranean trade with the planned reopening of the port of Annaba in Eastern Algeria in January 2024. This unlocks exciting possibilities for regional commerce and development.

To ensure comprehensive logistics support in Tunisia, Maersk offers a wide range of value-added services like warehousing, airfreight, LCL solutions, and supply chain management. Additionally, integrated services such as customs clearance, inland transportation, insurance, and cold chain logistics further enhance customer satisfaction.

Maersk's commitment to the Tunisian market is evident in this new service. By reducing transit times, increasing reliability, and offering comprehensive logistics support, they aim to empower businesses and boost trade in the region. This is a positive step not only for Tunisian exporters and importers but also for the broader Mediterranean economy.

Key benefits of the new service:

  • Reduced transit times between Tunisia, Europe, Middle East, and Asia
  • Increased reliability and efficiency for cargo movement
  • Convenient connection to Morocco and future link to Eastern Algeria
  • Dedicated RORO vessel catering to various cargo types
  • Wide range of value-added services for comprehensive logistics support

With this new offering, Maersk demonstrates its dedication to facilitating trade growth and enhancing economic opportunities in Tunisia and the wider Mediterranean region.
