Port of Portland Streamlines Gates, Prepares for Continued Growth

SEATTLE-- Tideworks Technology®, Inc., a leading provider of full-service terminal management and planning solutions, today announced the successful deployment of Tideworks’ gate operating system, GateVision™, at Terminal 6 (T-6) which is the Port of Portland’s deep-draft container handling facility.

GateVision benefits the Port of Portland’s gate operations at T-6 by providing streamlined processing and improved safety. GateVision effectively integrates four key components -- voice communication, video information, scale data information, and the Terminal Operating System -- into one user interface.

At the nine inbound lanes, processing is now an efficient “paperless”, single-stage gate process with instructions for drivers displayed on screens at a kiosk. This has improved the safety for T-6 personnel by removing clerks from gate lanes to a safer office environment. The implementation of GateVision has also significantly improved the processing speed and safety at the out gate, where the Port was able to incorporate four outbound lanes in the same space where only three lanes were available previously.

“The deployment of GateVision greatly enhances gate processing efficiency by enabling T-6 staff to easily collect truck, container, and associated equipment data,” said Chris Meyer, manager, Terminal 6, Port of Portland. “We are extremely pleased that GateVision is helping us to effectively handle increasing volumes of gate transactions in addition to improving the safety of the work environment for the personnel in this area.”

“Tideworks is excited and honored to have another opportunity to work with the Port of Portland and to deploy GateVision,” said Michael Schwank, president, Tideworks Technology. “This further strengthens our long-term partnership with the Port and is another step in the process of providing the Port with additional technologies to bring even greater efficiencies to its operation.”

This deployment of GateVision, fully commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2006, marks the ninth implementation of GateVision for Tideworks, a leader in the creation and implementation of “eGate” solutions. Since 2003, the Port of Portland’s T-6 has been successfully using Tideworks’ Mainsail Terminal Management System®, Spinnaker Planning Management System®, and Forecast™, identified under the Port of Portland brand as “CargoTracker”.
