Port of Corpus Christi woos project cargo specialists

The Port of Corpus Christi, one of the largest in the United States, is the latest sponsor to make a presentation to global project cargo specialists attending the Project Professionals Group annual conference in Aarhus, Denmark, from August 27-31, 2008.

PPG general manager Kevin Stephens said today that Port of Corpus Christi Executive Director John La Rue would deliver a presentation at the conference held at the Helnan Marselis Hotel.

Mr Stephens said the Port of Corpus Christi was strategically located in the Americas mid-way along the Texas coast on the Gulf of Mexico and had heavy lift capabilities that would be of interest to PPG members.

“The Project Professionals Group welcomes the opportunity to develop alliances with strategic partners such as ports that can accommodate delivery and distribution of oversize cargo,” Mr Stephens said.

He said conference registrations were up to 107 from around the world and included presentations by DSV Air & Sea A/S Project Division, Rickmers-Linie GmbH, Beluga Chartering GmbH, Ruslan International, Professional Logistics Group Inc (USA), TransGroup (USA), SAL, Siemens, Combi Lift, and the Port of Arhus.

The Port of Corpus Christi, ranked sixth in US ports in terms of total tonnage, handled 445,204 tonnes of break bulk cargo in 2007.
