PPG teams with SmartWay

Project cargo specialists, Project Professionals Group, has been accepted as an Affiliate Member of the United States Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay Transport Partnership.

The agreement fosters eco friendly transport solutions such as better energy efficiency that reduces greenhouse gases and air pollution.

The arrangement announced today (May 29) follows a meeting between SmartWay and PPG General Manager Kevin Stephens and advisory committee chair and Director of Projects, TransGroup Worldwide Logistics, Susan St. Germain in Seattle in February.
Mr Stephens, based in Brisbane, Australia, said PPG was the first group of its kind to be admitted to the SmartWay partnership and he looked forward to developing case studies that would help promote the benefits of green transport solutions.

“US-based PPG member TransGroup has introduced TransNeutral - Eco-Responsible Transport Logistics, one of the first carbon-neutral logistics solutions for the freight forwarding industry and this expertise can be utilised throughout our global membership,” Mr Stephens said.

“Our association with SmartWay not only offers PPG a competitive edge but also the opportunity for members and clients to make a significant contribution globally to sustainable business practices.”

Mr Stephens said around 100 participants had confirmed their attendance at the
PPG annual conference in Aarhus, Denmark, from August 27-31. He said the SmartWay partnership was on the conference agenda and would be discussed by members and how best to support an emission reduction program in the logistics industry and enhanced supply chain efficiency.

Mr Stephens said the conference also offered the opportunity to attend presentations by major sponsors include DSV Air & Sea A/S Project Division, Rickmers-Linie GmbH, Beluga Chartering GmbH, Ruslan International, Professional Logistics Group Inc., TransGroup, SAL, Siemens, Combi Lift and Arhus Havn.
