America’s Road Team Delivers Trailer to Store Rebuilding City’s Library Books

America’s Road Team today delivered a trailer to aid in the rebuilding efforts of Greensburg, Kan. The trailer, donated by GE Trailer Fleet Services, is intended to house library books as the town creates a community based on sustainable resources.

“The trucking industry is often a first responder, whether for hurricane relief with Katrina or for the bridge collapse in Minneapolis,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “It’s especially meaningful to assist my home state of Kansas, where our contributions will directly help children with their education.”

America’s Road Team Captain Steve Fields (Yellow Transportation) transported the trailer from Tulsa, Okla. to Greensburg, Kan. and was joined by fellow Road Team Captain Kent Durant (Roadway) for the presentation.

“This donation combines GE's ability to help out in a time of need, with its ongoing support of education around the country,” said CEO Joe Artuso, of GE's Trailer Fleet Services business in Wayne, Pa. “We sincerely hope this can help the school community as it rebuilds its learning environment.”

Greensburg, Kan. was devastated by a tornado on May 4, 2007. Because 95 percent of homes and business were destroyed, the city has decided to rebuild the community from scratch with sustainable resources as a model for rural America.
