BOOKBRIDGE STEPS UP TO THE PLATE FOR HEAVY LIFT SHIPMENT

Bookbridge Forwarders – a subsidiary of the Woodland Group – has organised the shipment of a steel plate mill from the UK to India.

Essex-based Bookbridge, UK agent of US project forwarding specialist KOG Transport, arranged the calling forward of 1,115 tonnes of cargo to the UK port of Immingham, where it was loaded on M.V. PASSAT for shipment to the Indian port of Paradip.

Once constructed, the steel rolling mill will produce steel plates of up to five metres wide – the widest steel plates ever produced in India. The plates will be used, amongst other things, in the construction of bridges and industrial pipes.

The four largest pieces – roller and drive housings – were 14.75 metres long, each weighing 171 tonnes.

Commenting on the shipment, Bookbridge’s Gerry Smith said: “The operation took months of planning, including visits to the principal contractor and the manufacturers in Yorkshire. Careful preparation and planning by our project team ensured the shipment went without a hitch.”

The Woodland Group is one of the UK’s largest independent freight forwarders, with a global network of offices and agents. The group offers a full range of multimodal transportation services, including air, ocean and road freight forwarding, plus inventory management, customs clearance and supply chain solutions.
