SOWING SEEDS OF LOGISTICS CAREER PAYS OFF FOR WOODLAND

Essex-based freight forwarder Woodland International has been short listed for a School Business Partnership Award, in recognition of its work with local pupils.

As part of an ongoing programme to raise awareness of the logistics industry among young people, Woodland has teamed up with Honywood Community Science School, offering pupils work experience placements, practice job interviews and career advice.

Last year, Woodland sponsored an international trade project at the school, comprising an art and essay competition. Pupils produced visual representations and written reports, detailing the journey of an iPod from production to retail.

It has also backed the school’s involvement in the Trident programme – a scheme that seeks to foster community spirit amongst youngsters. As a result of the support it has provided, Woodland was recently asked to present awards to pupils who have completed the programme.

Woodland director John Stubbings said: “Working with local schools is beneficial to all those involved. Students benefit from practical experience which will prepare them for the world of work and, in turn, it enables us to educate pupils about an important industry which is often overlooked as a career path.”

The Woodland Group is one of the largest independent freight forwarders in the UK, with offices throughout the UK, USA and in Ireland. It recently won an award from the British International Freight Association (BIFA) for the quality of its training and its commitment to staff development.

The group offers a full range of multimodal transportation services, including air, ocean and road freight forwarding, plus inventory management, customs clearance and supply chain solutions. For more information, visit www.woodlandinternational.com
