The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has a new President and National Chairman.

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has a new President and National Chairman.

The Rt. Hon. the Lord Fowler, currently Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Aggregate Industries plc, is BIFA’s new President, succeeding the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Caithness, who had been President of BIFA for the last three years.

Peter Norman Fowler, known as Norman Fowler before he was awarded his peerage in 2001, is a Conservative politician who was a member of Margaret Thatcher’s cabinet from 1981 to 1990.
Lord Fowler’s political career has spanned more than three decades in many key roles.

During his career, Lord Fowler has been deeply involved in industry, having been on the Boards of several companies. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford after which he attended Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

Philip Stephenson, Joint Managing Director of Davies Turner & Co Ltd, is the new BIFA National Chairman. He moves from his current role of Vice Chairman and succeeds Doug Overett, who has held the position of National Chairman for the past two years.

Davies Turner is one of the UK’s leading independent freight forwarding and logistics organisations. During the 1970s, Philip worked mostly overseas and in 1978 he set up Davies Turner’s office in Baghdad.

He has travelled extensively on the company’s behalf to develop Davies Turner’s portfolio of multimodal freight forwarding and logistics services in conjunction with local partners. In the last 10 years he has also focused on expanding Davies Turner’s warehousing network throughout the UK and Ireland.

In his capacity as BIFA Chairman, Philip will participate at CLECAT meetings with other European forwarders in Brussels.

Andrew Melton, manager of Hay World Cargo Ltd, is the new BIFA vice-chairman.

Comments Director General, Colin Beaumont: “With his political acumen, I’m certain that BIFA and its members will benefit greatly from Lord Fowler’s appointment.
